Download Trailer Battlefield 3! The something I love about moving into Los Angeles could be the number of revival houses and single screen concert halls you can still visit. I'm not referring to your multiplexes that are playing the newest Hollywood blockbusters, I'm referring to those historic movie theaters that play in the classic movies we loved watching if we were growing up. Many of these films we first watched on television or rented them on VHS from my local video stores (back when they existed), but we never have got to see them on the big screen where they belonged. But thanks to places like New Beverly Cinema, the Egyptian Theatre and Grauman's Chinese among other movie theatres, we finally get to see them the way they were can be seen.
Now I know a lot of people who currently would prefer to curl up for the sofa and view movies in the home, however, these cult movies have to be seen on the big screen should you be ever in Los Angeles.
"The Rocky Horror Picture Show"
This musical comedy horror cult classic which stars Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick as well as the great Tim Curry like a "sweet transvestite from Transsexual, Transylvania" is the longest-running midnight movie of them all. Thirty-eight years after "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" arrived on the scene, it's still playing in limited release and midnight screenings keep taking place all over America. However, you haven't lived til you have seen this movie in the Nuart Theatre in Santa Monica where audience members can wear their superheroes and talk back to the screen you might say they couldn't if it were every other movie. Fans in the Nuart go for treated to some live performance from Sins O' The Flesh, a small grouping of actors that perform combined with movie every Saturday night. You can always trust having a most fantastic time whenever you watch this movie on the Nuart!
"The Room"
The 2003 romantic drama which has been written, produced, directed and stars Tommy "YOU'RE TEARING ME APART LISA!" Wiseau continues to be called one of many worst films ever made, and the fans still can't get enough of it. "The Room" continues to sell out midnight screenings on the Regent Theatre in Los Angeles, and you can always count on Wiseau being there to accomplish a Q&A session using the fans. Joel and Ethan Coen followed up their masterpiece "Fargo" with this particular dark comedy starring Jeff Bridges as Jeff "The Dude" Lebowski. The movie would have been a box office disappointment, but it has since garnered one of the biggest and strangest cult followings of any movie ever made thanks to the main character's unapologetically calm attitude. Screenings of "The Big Lebowski" is available at various Los Angeles movie theatres, however the real treat for fans happens when the Lebowski Fest involves town. The recent Lebowski Fest held with the Saban Theater and Fountain Bowl featured per night of unlimited bowling along with various trivia contests. There was obviously any good performance by The Kyle Gass Band which featured an exclusive guest appearance by Jack Black as Evil Elvis. Oh yeah, they did show the movie there as well.
"Scott Pilgrim vs. The World"
What "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" is usually to the Nuart Theatre, "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" has become to New Beverly Cinema. Every Los Angeles screening I have seen of John Carpenter's martial arts comedy has always resulted in a soldout audience. Thanks to home video, "Big Trouble in Little China" gained a huge cult following, and audiences adore it today in ways that you wished they did back when it first arrived. It's this kind of kick to observe this film having an audience as is also in hysterics over Kurt Russell delivering his dialogue with the unapologetic John Wayne swagger, and we have long since accepted the fact his character of Jack Burton is more of a blowhard compared to a hero.
